The man, identified as Lukas Majuking, was said to be returning home from a trip to Kudat when the accident occurred about two kilometres away from his house in Kionsom.
It was learnt that the Hilux driver, a 40-year-old man from Kazakhstan, had lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and swerve into the victim's lane.
The impact was believed to have caused the victim to sustain severe head and bodily injuries, killing him on the spot.
Family members rushed to the scene after realising what had happened.
He leaves behind three children aged between 19 and 22.
The Hilux driver has been brought to police station to facilitate investigations.
