Slashed while on walk near Padang

Kota Kinabalu: An elderly man who decided to take a rest after a morning walk at the town padang, here, ended up having to get several stitches after an unknown individual slashed his right leg, early Saturday.

The 86-year-old, who lives in Taman Dah Yeh Villa in Damai, claimed to have been approached by a haggard looking man, believed to be a glue addict, at about 6am.

The man was said to have approached the senior citizen and slashed his right leg with a sharp object before fleeing in another direction.

He was taken back into the sundry-shop by his employees who saw him and subsequently sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he received several stitches to his injured leg.

The man's 52-year-old son, known only as Tan, said his father comes to the town padang for his morning walk as it was conveniently located near their family-owned sundry shop in Bandaran Berjaya.

He said his employees would also jog around the field with his father.

However, at the time of the incident, they turned up slightly later than usual.

"We hope police will conduct more patrols in the area to prevent such incidents," he said.

A police report was made the same day.
