The victim, identified as Calvin Tan Kee Hui, who worked in an entertainment outlet in the city centre, was said to be returning home to Putatan when the accident occurred at about 4.20am.
His 23-year-old relative, identified only as Liana, said Tan, the only son, had stayed in Putatan with his mother, while his sister had moved to live in Kuching after getting married.
It was learnt that his father had served at the Karamunsing Special Branch Division for several years before being posted to serve in Perak in October last year. His mother when met at the scene said that she had on many occasions asked him to stop working at the entertainment outlet after he was involved in an accident at Likas a year ago, but he refused.
Tan's father was said to have immediately flown to Sabah after receiving the tragic news.
Tan, a former student of SM La Salle Tanjung Aru, was believed to have lost control of his Wira vehicle, which skidded and crashed along the sides of the flyover, causing him to sustain severe bodily injuries, killing him on the spot.
His necklace given by his mother was also said to be missing from the scene. Witnesses claimed to have seen two people standing near the wreckage moments after the accident, however they did not suspect anything as they thought the duo were passengers in the vehicle.
