Kota Marudu: Police here arrested six local men for being involved in an illegal cockerel and ketam-ketam gambling session held at a house in Kg. Muhibbah here, Saturday night. The police team from the Kota Marudu Police Department led by Insp. Mukhtalif Bakar raided the premises following a tip-off at about 8.50pm.

A total of six live cockerels, three dices and plastic board with pictures of animals were among the items confiscated during the raid.

Kota Marudu Police Chief Supt Mohd Isa Yusof said six men aged between 27 and 59 were nabbed, while 20 others managed to flee.

He said further inspection revealed that among those caught was a Telekom Malaysia technician who has a previous record for the same offence committed at Bukit Lalang here, in December 2011.

"Another was a Agriculture Department technician, while the others are self-employed," he said, adding that some of them had even come from as far as Kota Belud and Kudat just for the sake of taking part in the gambling session.

The case is being probed under Section 3 of the Animal Cruelty Ordinance 1963 and Section 7 of the Common House Gambling Act 1953.
