Sabah juniors shift focus to defending Sukma gold medal

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah President Cup squad's match today against PDRM at the Police training centre football field will serve as a selection process for the State Sukma squad for the Perlis Games in May.Head coach Burhan Ajui said with the team's challenge for a knockout stage in the President Cup competition coming to an end after their 2-3 defeat at the hands of Perak at the Penampang Stadium on Monday, the team has now shifted its focus to defending their Sukma title."It was just unfortunate that we are out of the running for the quarterfinal stage. However, it can be a blessing in disguise for us to prepare early for the Sukma Games which is not too far away.

He said they no longer need the services of senior team members Reithaudin Emran and Zainizam Marjan who have played for the team in the previous few matches and their places will be taken by a few Under-19 players. "We are giving chances to some of the Under-19 players and in fact the door is open to all the players to lay claim for a place in the team.""At the moment we have 30 players shortlisted and it is now up to them to show us their worth in the final two games before we decide on the final 25-member squad."On the probable line-up for the match today, Burhan said Dyrrance Junaioh may take the place in central defence with Badrul Effendy while the right back will feature Randy Baruh with Ag.
