Ministry preparing Sports Devt Blueprint

Kota Kinabalu: The Ministry of Youth and Sports will be preparing a Sports Development Blueprint for 2015-2030, starting with preparations for the 2016 Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak.Minister, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan in his winding up speech at the State Assembly on Wednesday, said the blueprint, which will be done in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) will encompass every aspect of development to ensure Sabah is capable of producing world-class athletes.One of the short-term plans in the blueprint will include Sabah's preparation for Malaysia Games (Sukma) Sarawak in 2016, where Tawfiq aims for Sabah to finish among the top five.ADVERTISEMENT "Among the things that we will be focusing on in the blueprint will include development plans for athletes, coaches, officials, management and administration, sports science application and infrastructure. "Through this blueprint, I think we will be able to work out how Sabah can reach the top of the sports arena in Malaysia as well as the world and this is also in line with sports development planned under the 11th Malaysia Plan," said Tawfiq.According to Tawfiq, his Ministry is also targeting to hold 1,500 development programmes this year, compared to last year's target of 1,230 programmes targeted and 1,470 programmes held.Among the programmes planned include 900 Youth to Youth (Y2Y) programmes, 270 Leadership Development programmes, 252 Social and Unity Development programmes, 52 Skills and Entrepreneurship Development programmes and 25 Network and Cooperation Development programmes.ADVERTISEMENT In answering issues raised during the sitting on sports development, Tawfiq said the Ministry will be seriously looking into improving the football field in Matunggong, as well as building a new one together with a badminton hall.Tawfiq said that their current infrastructural development budget has already been allocated for other projects.

"Every year when we get our funding from the State Government, we would have already proposed how the funding will be used and we would follow the plan."However, for our next budget, we will seriously look into the construction of the badminton hall and improving the football field or build a new one if required, in Matunggong," he said.Tawfiq said this in reply to Matunggong Assemblyman, Dato' Jelani Hamdan. Meanwhile, in reply to Sugut Assemblyman, Datuk James Ratib proposal to build a new football field in Paitan, the Minister requested for the Assemblyman to submit the suggestion in writing through the Paitan Sub-District Office."The written request should include the proposed site for the construction of the football field and my Ministry will study and examine the suitability of the site and the land available," said Tawfiq.
