Labuan: More than 100 hulksters will converge here on May 10 to flex their muscles as Labuan Bodybuilding Association (LBA) quietly hopes that the new "Mr Labuan" would eventually become another national bodybuilding icon standing on par with nine-time Mr Universe winner Sazali Abd Samad."Everything is possible, the participants for Mr Labuan are from here, Sabah, Sarawak and even Brunei and Kuala Lumpur, you can call it a semi-national event and many of the participants had been pumping iron for years, who knows we could unearth a new gem," said President of LBA Jessee Tsen, a former Mr Sabah winner in the women's category.

The event is co-sponsored by the Youth and Sports Department and the winner would have a chance to represent Labuan at the National Championship for Mr Malaysia which will be held on June 6-8 at Putrajaya.

Mr Labuan would be held under six categories namely Novice (closed), bantamweight (60kg and below), Lightweight (60.1-65kg), Welterweight (65.1-70kg), Light middleweight (70.1-75kg) and Middleweight (75kg and above).

Jesse added that another aspect of the competition was that it offered a good opportunity to participants to benchmark their standard.

"Bodybuilders could compare where they stand against the status of their peers," she said.

She also said that when recently Sazali was crowned SAM-100Plus-KBS 2013 Sportsman of the Year defeating several big names in other sports, it showed bodybuilding now enjoyed better recognition.

More details on the event could be obtained from her at 0198630122 or Andre John Paul at 01686306408.
