Man and son among 3 burnt to death

Kota Kinabalu: Three people, including a man and his son, perished in two separate fires in Kota Marudu and Tuaran on Friday.In Kota Marudu, a 42-year-old man and his five-year-old son were burnt to death while his eight-year-old daughter escaped unhurt in a fire which destroyed their wooden house in a village early Friday. Sabah Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer, Mohd Affendi K. Ramin, said the bodies of Maijun Napaas and his son, Alexwin, were found in the living room of the house in Kampung Kirangawan after the 1.15am fire was doused. ADVERTISEMENT Maijun's daughter managed to run out of the house during the fire, which also damaged the wall of an adjacent house, he said in a statement here. Firemen from the Kota Marudu Fire and Rescue Service put out the fire in about five minutes, he said, adding that the cause and damage had yet to be ascertained. In TUARAN, the charred remains of an 81-year-old woman were found inside her bedroom after her house at Kampung Bundung was destroyed by fire at 12.30am. Piduh Ejap was said to be sleeping in the room when the incident happened. ADVERTISEMENT Affendi said they received a distress call at 12.33am and an engine with 11 firefighters were deployed to the scene and found the woman's body inside the room.
