Kota Kinabalu: Penampang MP, Darell Leiking on Friday said he will not support the two Private Member Bills on Hudud to be tabled by PAS in Parliament this coming June. The Bills, if approved, will allow Kelantan to enforce Hudud law by next year.

"It is to my opinion that PAS has all the rights to table the bills if this is what the majority of Kelantanese want PAS leaders to do.

"I understand the situation well since I, too, am responsible to bring the aspirations of Sabahans in the Parliament, no matter how difficult it is for other Peninsular states to understand," the Deputy Secretary General of PKR said.

However, since Hudud has never been a common consensus agreed upon by all the parties in Pakatan Rakyat, he believes that there is no restriction at all for MPs from PKR or DAP to oppose it.

He said that the passing of Hudud in Kelantan goes further than the mere issue of amputation of limbs on thieves since the passing of it will essentially destroy all the beliefs and hopes of the previous Parliamentarians who wish to see Malaysia remain as a multi-racial/religious nation.

"There is a reason why our previous MPs decided to limit the penalties meted out by the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 for offences against the teaching of Islam in Malaysia.

"This is even more so when they decided to come out with the 9th Schedule of the Federal Constitution (which governs criminal laws and procedures in Malaysia) instead of the Hudud penal law for criminal cases such as theft," he argued.

While he understood that Hudud would only be implemented in Kelantan, he believes that it is only fair to deduce that the Federal Constitution is not omnipotent and that Sabahans and Sarawakians may not be able to find any solace anymore in it.

The current scenario only reinforces the need for Barisan Nasional MPs from Sabah and Sarawak to review the 20/18 Points and Malaysia Agreement 1963, he said.
