PETALING JAYA: Students intending to pursue higher studies at local institutions of higher learning (IPTs) should enrol for diploma and degree courses accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). This will ensure that the diplomas and degrees acquired are recognised by the public and private sectors to enable them to improve their chances of getting hired, said MQA chief executive officer Datuk Dr Syed Ahmad Hussein. He said MQA was tasked with ensuring courses offered by IPTs met minimum standards that changed with times. ADVERTISEMENT In 2013, the MQA approved 1,076 of 1,093 applications for provisional accreditation and 731 of 753 applications for full accreditation, he said Friday. He said as of March this year, the MQA approved 231 of 235 applications for provisional accreditation and 175 or 176 applications for full accreditation. Urging students to check with the MQA on the accreditation status once they are offered courses, he said they could complain to the MQA if the programmes offered were not accredited or the courses were scrapped midway through. Syed Ahmad said the MQA received 34 complaints on unaccredited courses in 2013 and 27 until March this year.
