Kota Kinabatangan: The Ministry of Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government is considering to build a new fire station in Lahad Datu in view of the booming palm oil sector in the district.Its Minister Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan said an additional fire station was needed, to respond swiftly to fire calls and emergencies in areas with various factories within the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC)."There is a need for a new fire station after considering the development of POIC and the existence of chemical factories in the industrial zones," he said after officiating the RM13 million Kota Kinabatangan fire station, here, Saturday.

He said his ministry was also considering to expand the fire and rescue air units in Sabah and Sarawak with additional helicopters, to further enhance rescue and firefighting efforts in both states where inaccessibility was limited by large forests and hills. "The air units will also help firefighters in reaching the interior parts of the states," he said.
