Kota Kinabalu: A minimum of two gold medals is expected from the Sabah golf team in the coming Perlis Sukma Games in May.Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan said this on Tuesday during the courtesy call by the Sabah Golf Association led by its President Datuk George Bandusena that he is confident the team of young players will be able to deliver the goods."They have set a conservative target of just two gold medal which is one short of my three gold target but I am quite confident that they can achieve the target with not much problem, as I understand that we have the same group of boys who won us the individual and team goal last time round."ADVERTISEMENT The minister said they are still hoping for a repeat performance of the state sweeping all four gold medals as in the last Sukma games in Kuantan, but he knew it will be a much harder task as the girls' team this year will be without Aretha Pang who has turned professional last year."Still I think we have a very strong girl's team this year with another top national player and equally experienced Vivian Chin who is currently studying in America.""I heard she is doing very well in the US circuit and her inclusion in the team will only enhance our chances in the biennial games."He said he is very pleased with the progress of the players in their preparation for the games after being briefed by George, as well as Sukma coach Ronnie Pancrasius during the call at his office.ADVERTISEMENT "They are working very hard towards their intended target and I am happy with all the parties concerned doing their part."Tawfiq also called on the association to prepare early for the 2016 Sukma Games scheduled to be held in Kuching.

"To achieve that, I believe there is a need to begin developing the young players now, so that the target is within reach by the time the games starts in two years time."Meanwhile, the Minister was also told by the delegates that all the Sukma-bound players are to take part in the 30th Sabah Amateur Open to be held at the Labuan International Golf Club on from May 15-18 and it will be the final warm-up before the games in Perlis.
