Kuala Lumpur: Every expenditure from the allocation used to conduct "Ops Daulat" following the Sulu terrorist intrusion in Kampung Tanduo, Lahad Datu early last year was included in the National Audit Department's inspection. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the auditing on the security forces' spending was also done on a specific basis and not as a whole.

"The incident in Lahad Datu is a terrorist intrusion as a group and the military preparedness involved co-operation from many quarters, which definitely uses a lot of allocation.

"Nevertheless, the department from time to time makes on-the-spot auditing on projects and activities by the security forces and departments involved and even gave an assurance that none of them will be overlooked," he said when replying to a question from Senator Saiful Izham Ramli at the Dewan Negara, here, Tuesday.

Saiful Izham wanted to know if the National Audit Department had overlooked the millions of ringgit that was invested by the Government, which was seen as not bringing any impact on the country's security, such as in the cases of Lahad Datu intrusion and Malaysia Airlines (MAS) Flight MH370.

Shahidan said the total allocation that was channelled to the Defence Ministry for the operation was RM89.4 million, police (RM30.1 million), Home Ministry (RM49.9 million) and Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (RM6.4 million).

He said the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom), which was set up to monitor and co-ordinate the security forces' operation following the incident, was given an allocation of RM2.9 million.

However, a total of RM7 million had been returned to the Economic Planning Unit after the operation ceased, he said.

On the expenditure for the Flight MH370's search and rescue operation, which went missing since last March 8, Shahidan said he did not have the statistics involved as MAS was not under the purview of the National Audit Department. - Bernama
