'Corporal accidentally shoots colleague'

Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old constable is recovering in hospital after he was accidentally shot by his colleague in the chest at the Luyang Police Station here, Tuesday. Fortunately, the Sarawakian escaped serious injury only because the bullet hit the Buddha pendant that he hung around his neck.

City Police Chief ACP Jauteh Dikun said the two policemen were preparing to clock in for duty and proceeded to take the firearm from the storeroom when the accident occurred.

"The 34-year-old Sabahan Corporal has been brought in to facilitate investigations under Section 307 of the Penal Code," he said, adding that the firearm involved a .38 revolver.

Jauteh said medical reports showed that the constable, who has served in the district for quite some time, is in stable condition and that no vital organ was struck by the bullet.
