10 illegals held at Beluran island

Beluran: A total of 10 illegal immigrants, aged between 20 and 50, were detained by police during an Integrated Ops Cantas Khas at Pulau Puru-Puru and Pulau Gusung here.

District Police Chief Supt Sivanathan Velautham on Monday said all those detained were from the Philippines and were found at Pulau Kecil Puru-Puru.

He said all of them were believed to have entered the country to fish and had turned to the island as a stopover destination, adding that they have been handed over to the Immigration Department for further action.

Sivanathan together with six senior officers and 42 personnel from the Special Branch, Sandakan Marine Police, Sandakan General Operations Force and Crime Investigation Department among others conducted the five hour operation which began at 11am on Sunday.
