TPM Biotech ready to expand capacity in halal analysis

Kuala Lumpur: TPM Biotech Sdn Bhd is ready to expand the capacity of its halal analysis activities from the current 50-60 per cent utilisation, said its Chief Executive Officer Ahmad Husni Johari said. Ahmad Husni said the company's halal science laboratories now had the latest state-of-the art technology and expertise to serve customers to meet the highest international standard in halal requirements for food production. "We are calling more producers to send their samples for thorough analyses at competitive pricing," he said.

Following the porcine DNA allegedly found in a chocolate product recently, TPM Biotech has received more requests from confectionery and food producers for halal testing and analyses, he said.Ahmad Husni said the company spent RM20 million on its two laboratories at the Technology Park here."With the food industry now getting more complex, we also want to be rigorous and test our capability. The company has stringent procedures to ensure the integrity of each result," he said. Ahmad Husni said the company wanted to be known as a referral and a one-stop centre on the testing and verification of halal issue, to propel Malaysia's capability in halal scientific procedures and analysis.

He was confident the industry players would be comfortable to deal with TPM Biotech, a wholly-owned unit of Technology Park Malaysia Corp Sdn Bhd, which is a government agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.Meanwhile, TPM Biotech's Manager, Nor Amin Mohd Nor, said the company's laboratories had five methods for halal analysis.

Beside the common analysis on deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), TPM Biotech could do a complete test on 'polypeptide' - for gelatin-based product and and a test on 'triglyceride' - for emulsier, he said.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
