Kota Kinabalu: Nine selfless Talisman Malaysia employees raised more than RM50,000 for five charity organisations in Sabah and Labuan as part of their Mt Kinabalu challenge this year.

The amount raised by the climbers will be matched 1:1 by Talisman Malaysia, bringing the total fund to RM100,000, which is double the amount raised in a similar expedition last year.

The five selected beneficiaries are Yayasan Nur Jauhar, Sabah Thalassaemia Society, Don Bosco Children's Home, Bukit Harapan and PDK Mutiara Labuan.

Expedition leader Simon Molyneux, when met at the airport on arrival from Kuala Lumpur, said the team was in good spirit and excited about the climb.

Team members comprised of Wan Mohd Fashran Wan Mohd Fauzi, Riccardo Vercesi, Norzilawati Mohd Nor, Ishak Shuhud, Haslinda Idris Shaari, Richard Burdit, Nguyen Thu Trang, and Fatin Wan Mohamed.

The climbers were pleasantly surprised by the support in the form of monetary and morale from the company as well as their family and friends.

The Mt Kinabalu Expedition and Community Support project exemplifies Talisman's commitment to support staff volunteerism in its effort to reach out and make an impact on the community.

Simon hoped that his team members would accomplish the feat for their personal achievement, company and the charity organisations.
