Semporna Fire and Rescue Department head, Mohd Razali Awang Ahmad, said the charred remains of Abdul Gapar Nama, 78, was found in the bathroom of one of the houses that was destroyed in the 10.57pm fire.
"Two fire engines with 12 fire fighters arrived at the location after receiving a distress call. We managed to bring the fire under control by 2.23pm," he said when contacted. He added that a fire engine and four fighters from Tawau had also arrived at the scene to assist in the operation.
Mohd Razali said the remains of Abdul Gapar were later sent to the Semporna Hospital for post-mortem.
