Speaking at the 2014 celebration, Tuaran District Education Officer (PPD), Tah Nia Hj Jeman said the awards are the Innovative Teacher Icon Award, the Primary School Administrator Icon Award, Secondary School Administrator Icon Award, Parental and Community Involvement Icon Award, and Education Leadership Icon Award.
Primary school teacher Hawang Eyong of SK Giuk in Tamparuli won the Innovative Teacher Award while St John School headmistress Latina Helan Gasat is the Icon for Primary School Administrator. The Secondary School Administrator Icon is Ng Kah Gor, principal of SMK Pekan Telipok.
The Chairman of the Parent-Teachers Associations' Council for Tuaran District, Roslani Abdullah won the Parental and Community Involvement Icon Award.
The awards were given out by Education Director, Datuk Jame Alip who himself won the Education Leadership Award. He received his Iconship from Tah Nia.
The Iconship Awards were part of the Tuaran Teachers' Day celebration which was officiated by Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Seri Hj Hajiji Hj Noor. The highlight of the day was the presentation of the Tokoh Guru (Model Teacher) award by Hajiji, who is also Sulaman Assemblyman.
This year's Tuaran Tokoh Guru are retired educationists Hj Balus Hj Dulaji and Awang Tusin Osman.
Also present were Tuaran MP Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau, Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Tamparuli PPM Datuk Jahid Jahim, Tuaran District Officer A.M. Ibnu A.K. Baba and Tuaran OCPD Abd Fuad Malek.
Earlier in the day, Jame presented Service Excellence Awards (APC) to some 187 teachers and educationists from 10 secondary schools and 74 primary schools in the Tuaran district as well as the Education Office itself.
Among the award recipients was Innovative Teacher Icon Hawang Eyong.
