Man killed in van crash

Kota Kinabalu: A 34-year-old man was killed after the Nissan van he was driving crashed into a lamppost near the Kota Kinabalu International Airport Terminal One, here, Tuesday.

His 42-year-old brother, who works at the Water Department, identified the victim as Dalphvenus Chris J. Mointin from Kg Petagas, Penampang.

According to him, his brother worked with a tour company and was believed to be returning home to Petagas after dropping several tourists at the airport when the 10.05pm accident occurred.

He said his brother was the fourth of six siblings and leaves behind an eight- year-old daughter.

A fire engine manned by 10 personnel went to the scene following a distress call at about 10.14pm.

The man was assisted by personnel from the Civil Defense Department who happened to be plying the route when the accident occurred.

However, it was believed that he died at the hospital.
