Yee siblings reign supreme at junior tourney

Kota Kinabalu: Siblings Yee Xin Xin and Yee Zheng Hong led Sandakan to rule the Girls and Boys Under-12 categories in the Kota Kinabalu Inter District Junior Squash Tournament which was held at the Likas Complex Squash Courts recently.

Current CIMB GU11 national champion, Yee Xin Xin who was given the top seeding had an easy passage to the final before she was given only a slight resistance from Nur Izzati Abdul Karim (Kota Kinabalu) in the final where she prevailed 11-8, 11-1 and 11-7 while Yee Zheng Hong also put on a consistent display of polished strokes and control in all his matches played and in the final, he defeated Muhd Akid Zulkifli from Tawau in straight sets 11-8, 11-7 and 11-7.

As expected, Kota Kinabalu players took all the other crowns with the Boys Under-9 title going to Danial Danish who upset top seeded Aniq Azhar from Tawau 11-7, 11-9, 6-11 and 11-7 while Rachel Richard from SRK St Agnes Kota Kinabalu defeated the powerful Chin Sze Yi (Sandakan) 6-11, 13-11, 11-5 and 11-7 and grabbed the Girls Under-9 title.

The Boys Under-15 saw 5th seeded 12-year-old Duncan Lee (Kota Kinabalu) upset the form book by beating top seeded Jordan Loi (Kota Kinabalu) in the semi-finals before defeating third seeded Kong Kun Hao(Sandakan) in the finals.

The Boys Under-17 was duly won by top junior Lai Win Kit (Kkota Kinabalu) when he defeated Israf Amin Kaltes (Tawau) 3-0 while Girls Under-17 top seed Natasha Chin emerged champion with a walkover from Christable Peters.

In a brief prize giving and closing ceremony after the finals, all winners and top finishers were gifted trophies and a range of Prince Sports products.
