Kudat: The posting of the 51 Chinese language teachers who graduated from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) to boarding schools, vocational schools and colleges was a serious issue as the Education Ministry has neglected the shortage of Chinese language teachers in conforming schools. Minister of Special Tasks, Datuk Teo Chee Kang, said the Government, especially the Education Ministry, must resolve the issue wisely by taking into account the wishes of the people. He said this at the Teachers' Day dinner, organised by the Association of Sabah National Type Chinese School Management Committee (Sabah Dong Lian) Kudat branch, here. ADVERTISEMENT He acknowledged that it was not easy for teachers to work in Chinese primary schools and conforming schools, as they often faced various challenges. The posting of the 51 teachers was not only against the wishes of the teachers but would also have a profound impact on the shortage of Chinese language teachers in conforming schools, he said. He pointed out that students who graduated from conforming schools were one of the sources for Chinese language teachers, as well as a place to nurture future Chinese teachers. He said the shortage of Chinese language teachers in conforming schools would affect the learning of the subject, thereby further affecting the lack of Chinese teachers in schools. ADVERTISEMENT Teo said the 51 teachers embroiled in the issue were among the 136 teachers specially trained in the Chinese language subject at UPSI. "The posting of the teachers to boarding schools, vocational schools and colleges is not only a waste of resources but also reveal issues in the assignment of teachers.
