Kota Kinabalu: A total of 17 trees were uprooted when strong winds and heavy rain brought on by the tail effect of Hurricane Neoguri lashed the State capital, Tuesday morning.

A spokesperson from the Landscape Department at City Hall said trees and branches gave way in Likas, Luyang, Inanam, and Kolombong, forcing the closure of some roads which led to massive traffic congestion.

At Mile 7 Inanam along old Tuaran road, there was a long traffic snarl from Basel Church up to the Petronas petrol station in Menggatal when a big tree collapsed on the road at about 9.30am.

The department immediately dispatched its personnel to all the affected areas to clear the roads.

They were assisted by Fire and Rescue Department, and Civil Defence Department (JPAM) while traffic police monitored the traffic.
