Kota Kinabalu: A total of 32 police personnel lose their lives on a monthly average, according to Bukit Aman Management Director Datuk Seri Mohamad Fuzi Harun. He said some do so in the line of duty while some others due to long illness.
"We therefore encourage those serving in the force to register as members with the Skim Pampasan Berkelompok and Skim MediKip Koperasi Polis which offer insurance facilities and is open to all policemen and women," he said at the handing over of assistance and a posthumous appointment ceremony held at the police headquarters here, Saturday.
Also present were State Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Harun, Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Commander DCP Datuk Abdul Rashid Harun and Rinani Group President Noor Azerai Ahmad.
A total of RM30,000 was handed over to Salamah Amad, the widow of Corporal Ab Rajah Jamuan who was shot dead by eight gunmen at Mabul Island last week, while Marlina Stephen received the posthumous promotion on behalf of her husband Jucille Juin who was promoted to Corporal.
The late Jucille Juin, who was based in Johor, was killed after he was thrown from his patrol motorcycle that crashed into a lamppost while chasing a suspect in October last year.
Mohamad Fuzi said currently only 79,000 out of 124,000 uniformed police personnel have registered as members, adding that they expect the figure to increase by end of the year.
