Two traders warned over prices

Lahad Datu: The Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism Ministry's enforcement office here issued warnings to two traders at the Pasar Rakyat for not adhering to the Aidilfitri price control scheme launched on Sunday until August 5.District Consumer Movement chairman, Iman Ali said the two traders were also ordered to change their price according to the price control scheme. Both complied immediately.

"I am satisfied with the traders so far and it is hope that no traders will take the opportunity to raise the price to get more income during Hari Raya Aidilfitri," he said.

Iman was following the Ministry inspection together with chairman of Consumers Affair and Protection Society, A Nagaraju.

Led by the Ministry Head of Branch, Hamat Talib the inspection together with the District Council Enforcement and security forces was conducted at the Pasar Rakytat, fish market and retail shops.

Hamat said the traders found failing to comply with the price control scheme could be fined up to RM100,000 or jailed up to three years, or both, or compounded up to RM50,000.

He said traders who failed to put up the pink price tag for the controlled items could be fined up to RM10,000 or compounded up to RM5,000 while companies could be fined up to RM20,000 or compounded for RM10,000.
