Mohd Hafifi's success will inspire other lifters: Philip

THE success story of Mohd Hafifi Mansor should serve as an inspiration for all the other Malaysian lifters to follow, said Malaysian weightlifting team manager Philip Gisan on Sunday.Mohd Hafifi, 24, lifted a total 305kg - 135kg in the Snatch and 170kg in the Clean and Jerk - in the 69kg category. The Sabah Weightlifting Association President said the feat was not unexpected as the 24-year-old was tipped to do well in the competition after months of intensive training.

Philip said this when he was earlier asked by Express Sports to comment on the two Sabahan athletes, Constantine Clement Awos and Frenceay Titus who had competed a day earlier.Medal hopefuls Constantine and Frenceay both failed to make it to the podium after finishing sixth and 10th in the men's 62kg and women 53kg categories respectively."Despite failing to grab a medal, both athletes did well against a strong field and Constantine also managed to achieve his personal best with a lift of 127kg in the snatch and 153kg in the clean and jerk category.""They had prepared well for the competition and they also came to Glasgow a week earlier before the competition started.
