Kota Kinabalu: DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang claimed having warned former Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh in the 1970s that the illegal immigrant problem could develop into a very serious situation if not dealt with urgently. "At that time, Salleh did not take my advice seriously and even denied that there were as many as 140,000 illegal immigrants in the State."Now it is reported that there are more than 1.5 million illegal immigrants living in Sabah. It has to be resolved now," said Lim after witnessing the opening of four new Inanam DAP branches, here, Saturday.ADVERTISEMENT In this respect, Lim urged the Government to table the findings and recommendations of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on illegal immigrants in Sabah in the Parliament as soon as possible. It has been delayed for two months, he said, adding that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had promised verbally at the Parliament sitting to reveal the findings of the RCI report on May 14, 2014. "The lack of political will shows the insincerity of BN government to resolve the long perennial problems suffered by Sabahans via PTI issue."The result of RCI report for Teoh Beng Hock case was revealed just after one month from completion of report. What is taking Najib so long to reveal the RCI report for PTI issue? ADVERTISEMENT "Have the recommendations of the RCI report made Najib feel uncomfortable and cause uneasiness in the BN camp?" asked Lim.Lim said many felt that the RCI report would be the answer to resolve the illegal immigrant problem, the mother of all problems in Sabah.

Thus Sabahans have been looking forward to it seriously knowing for the fact the total number of illegal immigrants has exceeded 1.5million."The continuous delay of RCI report result has disappointed Sabahans, giving them fake hope to an amicable solution to the long overdue PTI issue."Sabahans have become 'the strangers in their own land' now," he said."I call on the Najib administration to respect, honour the RCI findings, recommendations and consider the RCI proposals seriously in order to resolve the PTI issue once and for all."According to Lim, Sabah and Sarawak would be an important battlefield for the 14th General Election. "Without Sabah and Sarawak votes for BN, Najib would not be Prime Minister and BN would not win the Federal Government," he said.In the last General Election, he said the BN won a total of 133 parliamentary seats of which 86 were in the peninsula Malaysia while a staggering significant figure of 47 in Sabah and Sarawak."That was the key why Najib is still Prime Minister of Malaysia today," he said.On another note, he said DAP would show full support for Likas Assemblyman Junz Wong who was suspended for six months from State Assembly."It is totally unreasonable to punish a state assemblyman for a matter which took place outside the State Assembly. This could amount to abuse of power by the State Assembly and could be seen as an attempt to suppress opposition representatives."We must inform all fellow Malaysians that we are facing a tough situation, BN political suppression to intimidate our representatives."All Malaysians must show solidarity and rally behind Junz Wong.
