SHAH ALAM: Embattled Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has been advised to wait for the return of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, from abroad to have an audience with the ruler. The sultan's private secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said Abdul Khalid had sought to have an audience with the sultan overseas to explain the political developments in the state and his position as the menteri besar. "I submitted his (Khalid's) application to His Royal Highness. However, His Royal Highness wanted Abdul Khalid to wait for his return," he said in a statement Monday.

Abdul Khalid had sought the audience after losing majority support in the Selangor legislative assembly following PAS' withdrawal yesterday of its backing for him in keeping with a decision of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition which also includes the DAP and PKR. PKR had decided to have Abdul Khalid replaced by its president, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, as the menteri besar, but Abdul Khalid had insisted on staying his full term. Also Sunday, the Pakatan Rakyat Leadership Council decided on Wan Azizah as the sole candidate for menteri besar in place of Abdul Khalid. Abdul Khalid said he accepted the latest decision of PAS, which had backed him at first, and sought the audience to explain the latest political developments to the sultan.
