Soldiers pay last respects

Sandakan: Soldiers gathered to pay their last respect on Wednesday for their two comrades who were killed in the armoured vehicle accident along Jalan Sungai Tiram. Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) Deputy Commander Brigadier General Subari Tomo led the procession accompanied by the 12th Royal Malay Regiment, that was assigned to Esscom, as well as officers and members of the 22nd Royal Malay Regiment.

The bodies of Sergeant Mohd Hanif Patahur, 31, and Private Ahmad Feleni Mansur, 23, are to return to their respective hometown, flown by Nuri from Tawau to Sandakan and then Kuala Lumpur by Malaysia Airlines.

On August 20, Mohd Hanif and Ahmad Feleni were killed on the spot after the armoured vehicle they were in overturned.

Four other soldiers were injured in the mishap.

They were on their way back to the Sri Kinabatangan Camp at Mile 7 along with another armoured vehicle patrolling the Labuk Bay in Kg Sungai Tiram.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman paid a visit to an injured soldier at the Duchess of Kent Hospital.

Mohd Faizal, who was behind the wheels of the armoured vehicle, has been admitted for external injuries.

The other crew members, Mohd Amaruddin Che Soh, 29, Mohd Hafez khairudin, 24 and Ifaiznor Ismail, 23, were discharged from the hospital on Tuesday.
