Graft fight: Three citizens among 36 honoured by MACC

Kota Kinabalu: Three ordinary citizens are among 36 in Sabah honoured with a special award from the Malaysia Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) for their contribution to the fight against corruption. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman himself presented the certificate of appreciation from MACC to Awang Zaini Awang Shamsuddin, Shamsuddin Haji Md Nadri and Saifuddin Omar Abdul Rahman in a ceremony held at the Federal Government Administrative Complex auditorium at Jalan Sulaman here Wednesday. The other recipients are State and Federal enforcement officers and staff. ADVERTISEMENT Twenty-eight of them are attached to 14 district offices while another five are working at Federal agencies namely Marine Department, Civil Aviation Department, Environment Department, Road Transport Department and Film Censorship and Enforcement Division in Sabah.Commending the MACC for the initiative which is vital and beneficial as it proved the government's true commitment and determination to curb corruption, Musa said the State government has always been supportive of MACC efforts in fighting corruption. "This is because we realise the importance of fighting corruption, which is also the main factor behind the progress of a nation," he said, adding because of this the government has included this aspect as a priority under the Government Transformation Plan (GTP). The subsequent actions are guided by monitoring through the implementation of specific National Key Performance Index (NKPI) with already identified targets, he said. Musa said in the National Key Result Area (NKRA) for the fight against corruption there are several NKPIs which also encompass performance and implementation like Corruption Perception Index (CPI) and Global Corruption Barometer (GCB) which are conducted by Transparency International, including several other specific indicators which include solving corruption case trials within one year, accountability index and corruption offenders database. Urging all the people to take part in supporting the effort under the said NKRA, the Chief Minister said serious action is needed to curb these wrongdoings which affect integrity.
