Kota Kinabalu: The State Commercial Crime Department is seeking the public's cooperation to trace the whereabouts of a man to facilitate investigations on five gold investment scams involving a loss of RM26,400 in Kudat. Its Chief Supt Saiman Kasran identified the man as 25-year-old Amar Izzuddin Bin Abdul Majid, addressed at Blok A 18-06, Regalia Residence, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Kuala Lumpur.

"We believe he is still in Kota Kinabalu and Kudat and those with any information are urged to contact the Investigating Officer Inspector Haslina Hasan at 019-550 7373 or the Kudat Police Station at 088-612222," he said.

Saiman said their investigations showed that the modus operandi is that people would receive a call from a local man who introduced himself as Ku Iskandar Bin Ku Fais claiming to be from a financial institution company in Kudat.

"The man would invite them to join a gold investment and those who are interested are asked to pay RM165 for a lot with promises of gaining attractive returns in cash.

"The victims are also offered loans as well as a credit card with a credit limit of RM5,000 which is valid for up to 90 days when they invest with him, however the victims only realise they are cheated when the so-called company could not be contacted," he said.

"We remind the public to be more sensitive and cautious when interacting with those asking them to make cash transfers into another bank account or institution," he said.
