Kota Kinabalu: Sepanggar MP Datuk Jumat Idris urged the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) and City Hall to constantly monitor the drainage within Sepanggar. He said City Hall needs to ensure the contractors given the concession to clean the drainage do their job in accordance to standard."I often notice that the contractor will leave heaps of rubbish and earth along the road shoulder for quite a long period until it falls back into the drainage," he said when asked for comment on the flash floods Wednesday that also affected parts of his constituency.ADVERTISEMENT Jumat said apart from that, the clash of high tide and drain water had resulted in delay in the discharging of rainwater to the sea."That is why I appeal to the contractor and property developers around Sepanggar to ensure water flows smoothly in the drains," he said.Meanwhile, 1Borneo Hypermall clarified that the flash flood at the adjacent road leading to the junction to UMS/1Borneo was due to the excavation work for laying underground cables by the contractor, which was appointed by City Hall.Pictures of the water-inundated road in front of 1Borneo went viral in WhatsApp.ADVERTISEMENT Meanwhile, Likas Assemblyman Junz Wong urged local authorities to make serious plans to cope with flash flood problems as the current drainage system was apparently not good enough to deal with the problem.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.
