Subsidised petrol seized, 7 held

Semporna: The Marine Police Force (PPM) here seized 1,165 litres of subsidised petrol that was to be smuggled to the Philippines in three separate operations, off the district's waters on Tuesday.PPM Sabah Region Commander ACP Mohamad Madun said seven men, aged between 14 and 49, who did not possess any valid personal documents, were detained in the operation.He said in the first operation at 11.20am, three men, aged 14, 24 and 48, in a pump boat, were arrested and 415 litres of petrol seized in the waters near Pulau Kalapuan.

At 3pm, he said, 375 litres of subsidised petrol were seized after a pump boat carrying two men, aged 19 and 45, were arrested in the waters of Nusa Kayu.He said in the third operation at 3.30pm in the same waters, PPM personnel seized 375 litres of subsidised petrol from another pump boat with two men, 15 and 23, on board.The confiscation of the subsidised petrol was an ongoing effort by PMM to ensure there was no leakages of subsidised petrol to neighbouring countries or losses incurred to the country," he said in a statement here Wednesday.Stay up-to-date by following Daily Express’s Telegram channel.

Mohamad said stern action would be taken against those involved in smuggling subsidised goods in the country.

He also asked the public to channel information on activities that contravened the laws, including smuggling in the state's waters, to the PPM.
