Kota Kinabalu: Persatuan Hemodialisis Kinabalu Sabah (PHKS) will organise a charity bazaar here on Sept 28, in conjunction with its ninth anniversary celebration, to raise the much needed RM400,000 for its centre's expansion. The expansion is meant to enable the centre cater to 10 more patients who are currently on the wait list.

The money collected will also assist the centre to sustain and further subsidise the cost of each dialysis treatment for the poor and needy patients.

At the same time, it is to create public awareness about the vital role of kidneys.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference held at the Cruise Lounge in Tanjung Aru here Wednesday, the centre's operation manager, Audra Joipin, said the charity bazaar, to start from 9am to 2pm, would be held at the Likas Sports Complex's badminton hall.

It is to be co-organised by JCI Tanjung Aru, she said, as the organising committee chairperson.

"PHKS is extremely excited about this event and we are hoping to receive a great response from the community as there is an opportunity for them to give back to the needy," she said, adding the event will also serve as a chance to celebrate with those who have been generous in supporting PHKS all these years.

Audra also called on the public to support this charity event so PHKS can expand the capacity to accommodate many more kidney patients. Coupons are now on sale and booklets cost RM50 each available at the outlets which participate in the event.

They include Venetion, Cempaka Square, Airways CafŽ Lounge, Jack & Pot CafŽ, Tambunan Club House (TNGC), Ewest CafŽ Lounge, Runway CafŽ, BC Bistro, The Cruise CafŽ Lounge, Arriva and Cherry Klubb.

The committee's vice chairman, Martin Lugu, said there will be garage sale of new and used items, local and international food and beverages by 11 F&B outlets, handmade jewellery and crafts, daily essentials, dry goods and many more.

"A special Kid Corner with a huge bouncy castle, toys, balloons, mascots and ice cream.

Another attraction will be funfair game booths that offer points to be accumulated to redeem cool prizes," he said.

For the more health conscious, he said, a health awareness booth will be presented with free of charge blood pressure and body mass index test by staff as well as blood donation corner by the hospital's blood bank.

He said it would be a family event and indoor fun-filled day, adding for each coupon booklet the holder will be entitled to a lucky dip and stand a chance of winning prizes such as F&B vouchers and much more.

Upcoming local artistes will also be there to perform and entertain the visitors, and they include a Ukulele group.

Also a special one-hour long free Zumba session will be given to fitness enthusiasts in the city by Shirley Rosemary Primus from Zumba Fitness Sabah together with Jack & Pot Zumba family.

JCI Tanjung Aru President Alvis Loo, who was also present, said they feel privileged to be working with the association for the noble course.

"This year we have decided to work even closer with the association.

We play a role together, including in encouraging more young people to get involved in community services," he said.
