30kg bombed fish seized off Semporna

Semporna: Marine police here seized 30kg of fish believed caught using explosives during an "Ops Paradise" patrol at the Silawa Island waters off Semporna in two separate inspections at about 3.30pm on Wednesday.Sabah Region 4 Marine Police Commander, ACP Mohammad Madun, said two suspects, including a 26-year-old skipper, were arrested when a team led by Sergeant Donatus Sinto stopped a pump boat and found the fish inside it.

"About 15kg of bombed fish were found on their boat and we seized the pump boat, its engine, compressor, shaft and propeller and rubber hose worth RM2,535 in total.

"In another case at the same place and time, two men jumped from their boat into the sea and managed to escape to Silawa beach here when my men were approaching their pump boat.

"We found another 15kg of bombed fish inside the boat and seized the pump boat with its engine, compressor, shaft and propeller worth RM2,440 in total," he said.

Mohammad said all the seized items have been brought to Semporna police headquarters for further investigation under the Fisheries Act 1985.
