Both the 45-year-old local who was driving the mini bus and a 40-year-old local who was driving the oil tanker-lorry were heading the same direction from Papar to Kota Kinabalu.
It was learnt that the mini bus from Beaufort ferrying 10 passengers stopped at a road shoulder to drop off a passenger at Sabindo when the tanker-lorry driver lost control of the wheel and crashed onto the right side of the mini bus.
The impact caused both vehicles to fall into a drain and three passengers to be seriously injured.
They were later sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital II by ambulance.
Fortunately, the tanker-lorry was not ferrying any fuel at the time.
Both drivers escaped with no injuries.
