Kota Kinabalu: The people are reminded not to be misled by irresponsible parties trying to undermine the progress, prosperity and harmony enjoyed all these years.Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said as a multiracial and multi-religious society, the people play an important role in fostering the spirit of unity and harmony with one another.

"Efforts towards fostering unity and solidarity in any society is not a short term agenda.

"Rather, it must be nurtured and practised at all times including in the education system, mass media and social institutions," he said during the launching of the United Sabah Dusun Association (Usda) Charity Dinner, Friday.

Musa's speech was read by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

Also present were Science, Technology and Innovation Minister and Usda President Datuk Ewon Ebin, State Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Jainab Ahmad, State Youth and Sports Assistant Minister Masiung Banah and Usda Vice President cum organising chairman Datuk Kalakau Untol.

Musa added that in conjunction with Malaysia Day on Sept. 16, the people should appreciate the gifts of peace and prosperity enjoyed all these years.

"September 16, 1963 was a very significant date for Malaysians, especially in Sabah because on that day, Sabah, Sarawak and Federation of Malaya merged to form Malaysia.

"Therefore, I would like to invite the Dusun community in Sabah through Usda to continue giving their support and cooperation to the government to ensure that Sabah will continue to develop and prosper," he said.

The event benefited three organisations namely Jireh Home Organisation, Community Rehabilitation Centre (PDK) Ranau and Pelestarian, receiving RM10,000 each.

In his speech, Ewon said Usda should continue to work closely with other organisations in the State for the good of the nation.

"Additionally, Usda will continue to respect and honour the constitution and the principles of the Rukunegara so that Malaysia will continue to prosper in peace and harmony.

"We in Sabah, we do not welcome racists and extremists because we do not want any negative element around us that could disrupt our society," he said.

During the event, the audience was entertained with various dancing and singing performances from famed Dusun singers as well as fashion show by a Dusun fashion designer showcasing his traditional and modern fusion collection.
