Scores of illegals held in LD, S'kan and Tawau

Lahad Datu: A total of 67 people including five children, believed to be illegal immigrants, were rounded up in an integrated operation launched at several locations in town here.District Immigration Department Chief Ibrahim Tamsil told a press conference Saturday that the operation was jointly conducted by the Immigration Department, Police, Rela, Civil Defence Department and District Council.

"A total of 250 individuals were inspected in the operation and 67 of them comprising 30 men, 28 women and five children were nabbed for failing to produce any documents.

"Those detained had violated the Immigration Act 1963," he said, adding that the operation was conducted simultaneously throughout the country to curb the illegal immigrant problem in the country.

Ibrahim added that such operation would be conducted from time to time to ensure efforts to address the illegal immigrant problem are fruitful.

Meanwhile, in SANDAKAN, ten foreigners were nabbed in an integrated operation by the district Immigration Department at two separate locations in Mile 8 and 16, early Saturday.

The operation was led by the district Immigration Deputy Assistant Director for Enforcement, Junior Gorbex Singh, together with 23 officers and assisted by 20 Rela personnel.

At Mile 8, 21 people were screened and four of them found to be illegal immigrants, while at Mile 16, Gum-Gum, inspections revealed six people out of 52 were without any document.

All of them were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the 1969/63 Immigration Act and are now being remanded for 14 days at the Sibuga Temporary Detention Centre to facilitate further action.

Two employers found flouting the immigration law were referred to the police.

Meanwhile, in TAWAU, a total of 306 people were rounded up in a three-hour operation at two locations - Pasar Sin Onn and Kg Ice Box - Saturday.

After the screening process at the Tawau Temporary Detention Centre, 19 were further detained, comprising 12 men and seven women, including two girls.
