PBS is talking big despite losing 7 strongholds: PKR

Kota Kinabalu: The general election last year showed the KDM communities' rejection of Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) with the party losing seven of its traditional strongholds while the other 10 seats were won with slim majority or through split votes.Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Vice Chief-cum-Moyog Assemblyman Terence Siambun (pic) said, therefore, he wondered why PBS Vice President Datuk Radin Maleh was full of confidence on the prospect of PBS winning the Moyog seat in the coming election.

"While it is normal for some political party leaders to express his or her confidence on winning a seat with the sole intention of uplifting the morale of the few remaining members, it is my opinion that Radin had made several errors on this matter," he said, Saturday.

Firstly, said Siambun, the people of Moyog had fiercely objected to the PBS President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan's insistence for the proposed Kaiduan Dam project at the interior of Moyog.

This, he said, was manifested through Projek BANTAH that had collected more than 2,000 signatures, mostly signed by young adults from Upper Moyog, over the course of two weeks.

"Come GE14, would PBS have any chances in Moyog after the insistence by Pairin to the people of Penampang for continuous sacrifice despite having made way previously for the Babagon Dam and Kodundungan Oxidation Pond?

"Perhaps it would make more sense if Radin firstly supervised the re-establishment of the seven lost seats before venturing to Moyog?" he said.

As for Radin's contention that the opposition only knows how to promise and will not be able to bring any development to Moyog, Siambun said the role of the Government is to disburse the development funds for any constituency in Sabah.

This, he said, is because the Government merely acts as a trustee to hold the State or Federal consolidated fund also known as taxpayers monies.

"As the Government and holder of the consolidated fund, it is the duty of BN to ensure that various assistance or support from the government departments are also being channelled to Moyog.

Siambun continued that the opposition plays a vital part in ensuring the administrative and governance system in Moyog is free from any discriminatory practices by continuing to highlight important issues affecting the people of Moyog such as unregulated development which is rampant in the district.

He said perhaps Radin was speaking based on his experience when PBS was an opposition party, but Radin should know well that there is a big difference between the opposition during that time and now.

"It is purely unethical and immoral for any BN leaders to issue misleading information that, despite the people of Moyog equally paying taxes and stamp duties amounting to millions of ringgit to the BN government, no fund will be channelled into Moyog for development purposes just because the seat is being represented by an opposition representative," he said.

Siambun vowed to continue fighting and highlighting all the pertinent issues in Moyog as he knows whatever he does or says now will be recorded for the future generation's understanding.

"Hopefully, they in turn will know and stand up for what is right, irrespective of whether they are in the ruling government or otherwise," he said.
