Despite starting strongly and with the strong crowd support, the recent Youth Olympic gold medalist failed to keep up the momentum after winning the opening set, allowing his opponent to take the initiative in the following sets and put himself under immerse pressure, resulting in many unforced errors.

Sabah's sole representative in the final Tan Jinn Hwa also suffered a heart break in the final when he and partner Eng Pui Yee lost in four sets 11-8,4-11,4-11,8-11 to compatriots Chua Khek Wei and Peck Yen Wei.

Tan said the strong draft in the hall was the main reason they made a lot of mistakes in the match that caused them the title.

'We just couldn't control the shuttle in the second set with the wind behind us. We made many unforced errors and gave away easy points. We failed to recover after and further more my partner also suffered knee injury during the match.

"Despite that, we played well under the circumstances and I wasn't too disappointed with the second placing as it was part of the learning lessons," he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysia managed to win another two titles when Ho Yen Mei defeated Korean Kim Ga Eun 11-10,11-7,9-11,8-11,11-8 to take the girls singles title while Tan Jia Wei and Soh Wooi Yik clinched the boys doubles title in a five-set thriller over Chinese Taipei's Po Li Wei, Yang Ming Tse 11-8,9-1,9-11,11-9,11-10.
