Eight 'tourists' held for vice activities
Kota Kinabalu: Eight women from China, Philippines and Indonesia who came to Sabah as tourists were arrested in separate raids here for suspected vice activities and working illegally. The first to be nabbed under the "Ops Noda" operation was a 45-year-old woman from China at about 7.40pm on Saturday.

Kota Kinabalu City Police Chief ACP M. Chandra said the woman was arrested from a hotel at the KK Times Square commercial area.

"A used condom and several other new ones as well as RM150 were seized from the premises," he said.

The second Chinese national was also arrested at a hotel at the area at about 11.50pm the same night.

"The 37-year-old woman was found with two unused condoms and RM150," Chandra said.

A third operation carried out at an entertainment outlet at Cyber Square just after midnight on Sunday saw seven people arrested.

The seven were a 24-year-old local man, five Filipino women aged between 24 and 38 (of which three had no documents), and a 27-year-old Indonesian woman. Out of the seven, the 24-year-old local was the caretaker of the premises.

"All have been remanded," Chandra said, adding that most of those arrested came to Sabah as tourists with social visit pass.

Meanwhile, he said a total of 44 people were also investigated and taken for urine tests during the raids.

"A woman and three men tested positive for drugs," he added.
