Keningau: The State Cabinet has approved an allocation of RM4 million for the construction of a Bajau Samah Cultural Centre in Tuaran. For this year, RM500,000 will be released for site preparation works.This was revealed by the President of the Sabah Bangso Bajau Samah Association (PBBSS), Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, when he officiated the Keningau District PBBSS branch, here, Sunday.

He said when the complex is completed, the Bajau Samah people will have a permanent place to display their culture; adding that the site selected is also strategic because it is near tourist destinations like beach resorts in Tuaran.Hajiji, who is Local Government and Housing Minister, stressed that the formation of PBBSS a couple of years ago was not to compete with other existing similar associations, but rather to complement them.
"Neither are we political. Our aim is merely to uplift the image of the Bajau Samah people to make them on par with other communities, including in the cultural aspect," he pointed out.He added that PBBSS members made their first public appearance two years ago by taking part in the State-level Merdeka Day parade in Kota Kinabalu and more recently at the international-level Tawau Fest; winning accolades on both occasions.

The PBBSS Keningau branch is headed by businessman Allufdin Mohd Yassin, who is assisted by Mohd Noozlan Bari as deputy and Amin Lajim as vice-chief. The secretary is Shah Sanen and treasurer is Rakhamadin Yassin.
