Ranau: Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun has urged Sabahans not to mix communal activities with politics, saying it will affect the existing unity. He said there was no reason for anyone to be divided due to politics as political parties are the creation of men. "The Al-Quran itself does not contain any verses which make it a must for Muslims to join political parties, but only heed the instructions of Allah and be faithful to Him," he said during the launching of the Surau Al-Taqwa cum Independence Day Celebration here.

On another note, he said the meaning of Independence should not only be limited to be free from being colonised but also free from negative and backward attitudes. "The presence of a huge crowd here also proves that differences in political ideals have not affected the unity of the community," he commented on seeing about 200 villagers at the event.
