Subsidised diesel seized in Semporna

Semporna: A total of 37 jerry cans of subsidised diesel worth about RM4,560 which were being smuggled out from Malaysia were seized by marine police here who checked five boats in Semporna waters during a special task operation on Tuesday. Sabah Marine Police Commander ACP Mohammad Madun said 10 boats were spotted during the operation, of which five boats managed to escape while another five were intercepted. "The first 12 jerry cans of petrol (300 litres) were seized at Kg Baru waters about 4.10pm after they checked a pump boat skippered by a 45-year-old Filipino.

"Another 17 jerry cans of petrol were seized at Kg Tanjung Baru at about 4.11pm from a 28-year-old Malaysian while seven jerry cans and five gas cylinders were seized from a 28-year-old local at Kg Tanjung Manimpah at around 4.11pm. Earlier, at 4.12pm, seven Filipinos including four women, aged between 19 and 35, were detained at Boheyan Island waters for trying to enter the country without proper documents. Also were seized, he said were a speedboat, its engine and one can of petrol, adding all the seized items, including boats, engines and their illegal items, are worth about RM55,560.
