Two men wanted by police detained

JOHOR BAHARU: Johor police arrested a wanted man believed to be involved in a murder case in Jalan Engan, Batu Pahat, last Saturday.In the incident at 9.50pm last Thursday, the 30-year-old suspect was believed to have attacked two men in the area, resulting in the death of one of the victims at the scene while the other sustained critical injuries.

Johor police chief, Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff said the suspect, who was tested positive for methamphetamine, also had four past criminal records and wanted by police for one case.

"Police also seized a sling bag, screwdriver, gloves, mobile phone, knife, ring, five watches of various brands and RM40," he told reporters at the Johor contingent police headquarters, here, Wednesday.

He said the suspect, who was now being remanded for seven days until Sept 20, would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a death sentence upon conviction.

Mohd Mokhtar said following this arrest, they resolved a murder case, 10 house break-ins and two robberies in Batu Pahat. He said police also arrested a man with 41 active criminal records during his attempt to steal a vehicle in Taman Utama Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, last Saturday.

In the 11pm incident on Sept 13, the 33-year-old suspect was arrested while trying to pry open the door of a car at the victim's home.

"Following a public tip-off, police rushed to the scene and nabbed the man. Record checks revealed the suspect had been jailed many times due to 41 offences such as house break-in, car theft, robbery and drugs," he said.– Bernama
