KOTA KINABALU: The Society of Living Water, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) set up by the Inanam Assemblyman's Office last year, has so far assisted over 100 homes in five villages in the constituency get connected to clean gravity water supply. It is currently implementing similar water task force projects at Kg Bonsut, Kg Longkou, Kg Koko, Kg Bambangan Batu, Kg Lanit, Kg Bukit Permai, Kg Simonpuru and Kg Natai, which will benefit over 300 houses when complete.

Completed projects include those at Kg Keliangau, Kg Kiambalang, Kg Kiambalang and Kionsom Kecil, Kg Kawakaan and Kg Pengasaan, which cost about RM80,000.

Political Secretary to Inanam Assemblyman, Darren Tong, said these are among the many villages in the constituency which have yet to get access to clean water supply.

"About 70 per cent of the villages in this constituency have yet to get access to clean water supply…these are villagers who would be in trouble whenever it rains, as their water source which is the river would turn murky," he said. He said the Kg Kawakaan project is a special case actually, as they assisted a disabled (OKU) family who lost their source of water supply following a landslide.

He also urged the public to assist in the good deed by donating generously at the society appreciation and fund-raising dinner to be held at Putera Ballroom in Bukit Padang here on Sept 28.

Tong, who is the organising chairperson for this event, said they aimed to raise RM50,000 at the dinner which was aimed at promoting membership and appreciating sponsors and members, apart from creating public awareness on the plight of the village folk.

He said those seeking more information about this event can contact Tan at mobile phone no:016-8332264.

Apart from this, Tong said this month the society jointly with Giant Kolombong, Multimedia College and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) Blood Bank will also organise a blood donation drive at Giant Kolombong on Sept 20, from 11am – 5pm. He said they intend to collect 20 to 30 pints of blood for the blood bank through the event.
