Second bank fire scare in KK
KOTA KINABALU: Some 100 staff of Standard Chartered Bank along Jalan Pantai here vacated the premises after its management was notified that smoke was emitting from a transformer behind the building at 10.40am on Thursday (pic) – the second fire scare involving a bank in the area within 24 hours.The maintenance team of the bank building immediately shut off the transformer as a precaution and repair work was carried out.

Three fire engines and three motorcycles manned by 20 firefighters were dispatched to the scene when they alerted at 10.45am.

Fire was averted at the adjacent Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation along Jalan Gaya by quick thinking staff who lost no time to put out the air-conditioning compressor blaze at 10.40am on Wednesday.

The bank's emergency team used fire extinguishers to douse a small fire on the compressor before the arrival of firefighters.
