Three navy men charged with killing colleague
Kota Kinabatangan: Three Malay navy personnel who allegedly caused the death of their Sabahan colleague last year were brought to the Sessions Court to face the charge against them, Friday.Muhammad Zainrudin Nordin, Mohd Hood Mad Hasib, both 25, and Muhammad Fadli Zaini, 24, pleaded not guilty before Judge Ainul Shahrin Mohamad when the charge was read to them.

Zainrudin, of Kajang, Selangor, Hood from Kulai, Johor and Fadli of Melaka are accused of committing culpable homicide not amounting to the murder of one Asrup Raidin, 27.

The crime allegedly took place at 7.36pm on Dec 3, 2013 at the Royal Malaysian Navy in Lagun Station (Terumbu Ubi), Labuan.

If found guilty under Section 304 of the Penal Code, they could be punished with a jail term of up to 30 years and fined.

Senior Federal Counsel Jamil Aripin who was assisted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Nazneen Zulkifli objected to bail for them but later proposed RM5,000 in a local surety should the court wish to grant them bail.

All of them asked for a lower bail saying they are still working with the RMN and that they have no intention to abscond.

Ainul however, released each of them on a bail of RM10,000 with RM5,000 deposited in a local surety who must have a permanent address and fixed Oct 20 for case management.

Besides that, they also were ordered to report to the nearest police station once a month and their passports, if any, must be impounded by the court.

Zainrudin, Hood and Fadli who were not represented, were advised to find their counsel before the next court date.

The prosecution informed the court that about 25 witnesses would be called in the hearing.
