KOTA KINABALU: Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat has called on trade unions in the State to work closely with the Government and employers for their mutual benefit."I wish to call upon the unions to work closely with the Government, employers, non-governmental organisations and the community so that together we can build a beautiful Sabah for the benefit of our future generations."

He said this in his speech read out by Ministry Permanent Secretary Bruno Vun at the Sabah Commercial Employees Union 8th Triennial Delegates Conference, here, Saturday.

"It is only through such partnership can we progress further. Let us embrace each other for the benefit of the whole, for each and everyone of us plays a role towards this end.

"In Malaysia and Sabah, in particular, we have not heard of a general strike before. We did have pickets here and there but these are mere nuisance than bringing any real damage.

"I attribute this to effective leaderships both at employer and union levels. You are able to sit down as a family and negotiate your way through without sacrificing any party along the way. This is the win-win that we should all aim for in any situation."

The Triennial Delegates conference was attended by close to 100 participants.

Also present was Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) President Mohd Khalid Atan, Sabah Commercial Employees Union (SCEU) President Mohd Amin Jaafar, Union Network International-Malaysian Liason Council (UNI-MLC) Vice President Mohd Ibrahim Hamid and SCEU General Secretary-cum- Organising Chairperson Azlin Awang Chee.
