KOTA KINABALU: Those wishing to go for a blood test at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1 have the opportunity of doing so outside of weekdays.A spokesman for the Hospital's administration said the institution's blood-taking centre ("Pusat Pengambilan Darah") was open on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between 7.30-11.30am.

"The operating hours at the Centre have been extended to offer patients temporary relief from the congestion and parking problems which generally occur on the hospital's grounds during week days," he said.

"We intend to upgrade the Hospital's multi-storey car park to resolve the latter difficulties."

He said the administration was still waiting for an allocation to have the building refurbished.

The spokesman was responding to a complaint from a Kolombong resident about the problems she encountered in finding parking when she went to the Hospital recently.

Christine, a Daily Express reader, had taken her elderly parent to the medical institution to have a blood test carried out at around 9am on a recent weekday.

"I dropped off my Mum and sister who was accompanying her, before heading to the multi-storey car park," she said.

"All the parking bays on the ground floor were occupied so I proceeded to the next level."

She said she was stopped by a guard before she could enter the first floor.

"This individual told me that only staff and cars with stickers could make use of this floor and the next.

"Because of this, I was forced to circle the Hospital's compound but was still unable to find a vacant parking space."

Thankfully after a 10-minutes of going round, she received a call from her sister to say that they were done.

She said she was not looking forward to returning to the Hospital for her mother's next appointment.

"I doubt the follow up visit will be finished as quickly as my Mom will have to the have results of the blood test explained to her, as well as undergo an eye exam."

Christine said the lack of parking lots for the public at the Hospital dismayed her.

"It is well known that motorists who leave their vehicles on the roadside risk being penalised by the local authorities.

"This situation is also surprising as the hospital's administration has repeatedly encouraged the public to make use of the car park instead of leaving their vehicles haphazardly around the premises."
